Sunday's Views - A look at the results that have happened this weekend.

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

First of all I'm not going to hide away from it, mainly because I got both results wrong!

The Super League play-off games proved what I appear to know about the sport, as Hull FC put in a superb display on Thursday night to beat Warrington and to add to that, on Friday night Catalans beat Leeds so I'm hoping I can definitely do better next week.

Barrow AFC left it late to pick up a deserved point against 2nd in the table Cambridge United, leaving it until the 96th minute.

Matthew Platt got his head on a ball into the box to score his first goal of the season and moved his side up to 18th in the League Two table.

But I'll move into my highlight of the weekend, the three day November meeting at Cheltenham produced some excellent racing.

Friday saw one of my five to follow for the season in Protektorat demolish a four runner field in the Novices' Chase to prove his class, but all the attention was on the result of the Cross Country Handicap Chase.

Two time Grand National winner Tiger Roll was pulled up by Robbie Power who later reported he felt the horse was never travelling.

The race was supposed to be a rematch between the French trained Easysland and Tiger Roll but both failed to produce anything close to what we saw at the Cheltenham Festival in March and 22-1 outsider Kingswell Theatre ridden by Tom Scudamore and trained by his brother Michael took the spoils in the end.

On Saturday it was Paddy Power Gold Cup day and the winner was the Evan Williams trained Coole Cody.

The horse led from start to finish and provided jockey Tom O'Brien with one of his greatest days in the saddle as he stood in for the injured Adam Wedge to power his mount to victory.

Sunday saw the Greatwood Hurdle take place and it was the Irish trained The Shunter who took the spoils under a patient Robbie Power ride.

The horse stayed on well to lead on the run-in before going away in the final 100 yards to record a three length success over Ballyandy.

So what have we learnt from this weekend's sport? Don't listen to my predictions on the rugby that's for sure!

Hopefully I can do better this weekend but I was saved a little on Friday when Protektorat ran the field into the ground to chalk up another success and make it 2 from 2 over fences.

Now, did someone say the England match was on?
