Sporting Review - A look back at some of the sports performances of the last week.

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

It's been another exciting week in the world of sport and I'm going to be taking a look at some of my highlights from all the action.

Starting with rugby league, it was Wigan Warriors who finished top of the Super League after a hard fought win over the Huddersfield Giants took them above 2019 Grand Final winners St. Helens.

It now means that the new play-off system sees Wigan and St. Helens miss out on the first week of fixtures because they finished first and second, and the games for the week are Warrington vs Hull FC and Catalans vs Leeds.

Salford Red Devils coach Ian Watson has also left the club after it was rumoured that another club had approached Watson over becoming their coach and it will definitely be a story to watch through the coming weeks.

In football it was a great weekend for Leicester as they beat Wolves 1-0 thanks to a Jamie Vardy penalty to put them top of the table.

VAR however was in the spotlight once more with two controversial handball calls putting more pressure on the officials to change the way they view things on the monitor, and to not just look at the incident in slow motion.

Manchester City drew 1-1 with Liverpool in the box office match of the weekend, while Manchester United beat Everton 3-1 to relieve the pressure on their boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In horse racing El Presente won the feature race at Wincanton which is the Badger Beers Silver Trophy.

The Kim Bailey trained horse rallied on the run in for his jockey David Bass to get up and beat Potterman by a short head to land the prize for his trainer.

The most interesting performance of the week came on the Friday though, with the free running Allmankind making the step up from hurdles to chasing and putting in a scintillating performance over the larger obstacles to run out an easier winner for Dan and Harry Skelton.

He will now be aimed at Sandown's Grade 1 Henry VIII Novice Chase in early December in a race where his trainer will be looking to go one better than last season when Nube Negra finished second behind Evan Williams' Esprit Du Large.

And finally we'll finish with a look at my local team Barrow AFC and what has happened to them through the last week.

Their FA Cup tie with Wimbledon was postponed due to the visitors returning positive Covid tests and midweek they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Grimsby Town.

This evening they welcome Accrington Stanley in the EFL trophy where they will be looking for their first win in the competition after two draws even though they secured an extra point after beating Leeds United Under 21's on penalties last time out.
