Review of the week - A look back at all the sporting action from the past week.

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

It was another busy week in the sporting world so it's time to have a look at the bits which stood out for me.

We'll start with rugby league considering I had a miles better week with my predictions!

On Thursday Wigan were always comfortable against Hull and on Friday St Helens put in a similar performance to ease past the Catalan Dragons.

This means on Friday the Grand Final will take place at Hull's KCOM Stadium between Wigan Warriors and St Helens as the top two sides in the league this season battle it out for the most prestigious prize in English rugby league.

The Grand Slam of Darts Final takes place this evening between James Wade and Jose De Sousa after a brilliant weekend of action which saw four of the last six games go down to a final leg decider.

James Wade fought back from 9-5 down in his semi-final against Dimitri Van Den Bergh while De Sousa who has become the first Portuguese player to reach a major PDC final, beat Simon Whitlock 16-12.

In football Liverpool ran out comfortable winners over Leicester with a 3-0 victory while Tottenham went top of the table with an impressive display over Manchester City with Son and Lo Celso being the scorers.

Local team Barrow AFC conceded a last minute equaliser against Forest Green as they started their hectic schedule of three games in six days.

Luke James and Dior Angus were the scorers and put Barrow 2-1 up before Nicky Cadden blasted a free-kick in from 20 yards to rescue a point for the visitors.

Barrow play Oldham this evening in the league before they play their re-scheduled FA Cup tie on Thursday at home to Wimbledon.

In horse racing Bristol De Mai won the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park on Saturday with another brilliant jumping display.

Jockey Daryl Jacob controlled the pace throughout and when Clan Des Obeaux loomed up under Sam Twiston-Davies two out it seemed as though the grey was beaten but Jacob pushed out his mount to the line to record a two length success.

On Monday the impressive hurdler from last season in Shishkin made his chasing debut at Kempton and demolished the field to show that he has definitely taken to the bigger fences already.

To the end the piece on a positive note it was announced yesterday that fans will be returning to stadiums as early as next week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that depending on what tier your area will be in will decide on how many fans will be allowed in.

If you are in Tier 1 up to 4,000 fans can attend, in Tier 2 you can have 2,000 but if you are in Tier 3 you cannot have any fans in attendance.

Grassroots sports will also resume from next week in what is great news for sport in the country.
