Lockdown 3.0, 2021 edition - Another national lockdown already?

First of all I would like to say that I hope everyone had a good Christmas and that now 2020 is behind us all we can crack on and enjoy 2021.

That however will have to wait as yesterday the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that it was time for another national lockdown.

This brings with it more cancelled sport at a local level and we are once again left with what is considered as elite level sport only.

So if 2021 was wanting to be better than 2020 then they haven't got off to the best of starts!

The government's decision is understandable with the new variant of Covid 19 which spreads considerably quicker and this has been shown through the rise of cases.

But at this point people who play sport at a non-elite level must be fed up and it adds more strain onto these clubs to try and keep going in these tough times.

But moving on anyways, plenty of sport has happened since I last did one of these so I think it's time to look at some of the highlights.

In football local team Barrow AFC parted company manager David Dunn who couldn't buy any luck in the job.

Former Grimsby man Michael Jolley was eventually announced as his replacement and he'll be looking to steer the 'Bluebirds' away from the relegation zone in what has been a tricky return to the Football League for them.

Manchester United have been on a role in the Premier League and now look title challengers under former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 'Red Devils' exited the Champions League after a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig and it looked as though Solskjaer could once again be favourite for the sack.

Since then they've gone unbeaten in seven matches, including a 6-2 thrashing over Leeds and now sit second in the Premier League table with a game in hand over 2019/2020 champions in Liverpool.

My team Wolves haven't created form similar to Manchester United unfortunately, and with injuries piling up for Nuno's men, things haven't been easy.

Regular players Willy Boly and Leander Dendoncker have both been absentees alongside the already injured Jonny and Raul Jimenez which has meant youngster Fabio Silva who cost the club £35 million last summer, has been left to lead the line.

Silva looks like a player who still needs time yet and has struggled to fill the boots of the star man Jimenez and as a result the club will be looking for a striker during the transfer window.

In horse racing Altior made his comeback in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton but was beaten by a younger horse in Nube Negra as the Skelton's had a Christmas to remember.

The brothers in Dan and Harry had further graded success at Kempton in the Kauto Star Grade One Novices' Chase where Shan Blue made it a perfect three from three over fences.

In the Grade One King George VI Chase it was a magical moment for Bryony Frost, as she steered Frodon to victory with a front running display.

Frost has built up quite the relationship with the horse and he galloped the field into submission to make it a 12th King George win for trainer Paul Nicholls.

The Darts Championship was won by Welshman Gerwyn Price as he beat 'The Flying Scotsman' Gary Anderson 7-3 to win his first World Championship and also become the new world number one in the PDC Rankings.

So there you go, there's plenty more that I could talk about but we'll save that for another piece and later on this week I'll be doing a preview piece again on all the upcoming sport again this weekend.
