For Allmankind! - A review of the Grade 1's at Sandown and my thoughts on them both.

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

What a day Saturday turned out to be for Harry Skelton!

Two Grade 1's in the space of 45 minutes made it a day that Skelton won't be forgetting in a hurry, and how impressive both wins were.

In the Henry VIII Novice Chase Allmankind did what he does best and ran his rivals into the ground to record another Grade 1 victory in his already impressive career.

When Harry Cobden pressed the button on Hitman to get closer before the Pond fence it seemed as though that he was lining up his shot at Allmankind to take the spoils.

Skelton's mount however had a different idea, and he kept up his relentless gallop up to the line to run out a two and a half length winner, and provided Skelton with his 4th Grade 1 win.

Things were soon to get better for the 31 year-old as he then went onto guide the grey Politologue to a win in the Tingle Creek Chase.

In similar style to the Allmankind race, Skelton set his stall out from the start and was never caught in what would've been a much more interesting contest if the Nicky Henderson trained Altior had turned up.

Harry Cobden made it to 2nds in a row in the Grade 1's but Greaneteen never appeared on the same level as Politologue but I wouldn't write him off winning a Grade 1 in the future though.

In fact, two losers to take from the day of racing have to be Hitman and Greaneteen.

Both horses on a different day would've have probably won but the opposition they were facing both had similar tactics which the two didn't seem to like so, in a different race which is ran at a different speed they could easily win a graded race at the very minimum.

But another good day for the selections and it's onto the rest of my weekend of sport review tomorrow now!
