Cheltenham Day Four Review - Jack's got that golden touch.

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

It's late, but here's the round-up from day four of Cheltenham, and I hope everyone's enjoyed all these previews and reviews!

First race of the day went to Rachel Blackmore again, who has just been simply sensational at this festival, but no-one should be shocked by this, she's a fantastic jockey and got the tactics right so many times this week, if anyone says she isn't a top jockey then there are clearly just jealous of her success.

Quilixios stole the race under a brave ride from Blackmore, and the Irish took the County hurdle as well, with Belfast Banter storming up the hill to win for jockey Kevin Sexton.

Vanillier won the Albert Bartlett by 10 lengths under jockey Mark Walsh, before the biggest race of the week took place, the Gold Cup.

Not a lot of horses travelled into the contest, and Champ didn't make it very far at all, and neither did stable mate Santini either.

The Irish were dominant again, but this time the Henry De Bromhead winner wasn't partnered by Blackmore, as she went with A Plus Tard who could only manage second, whilst Minella Indo stole the show under a brilliant ride under the young Jack Kennedy.

Kennedy's career has had it's issues, like any jockey, and his early shipping off Envoi Allen On Thursday would've been hard to take.

But he had the golden touch here as he drove his mount up the hill in a brilliant finish.

Porlock Boy took the Hunters Chase, before the best finish of the day came in Mares Chase between two of Ireland's top jockeys in Paul Townend and Mark Walsh.

Townend got the better of him though, as he pulled out a bit more on Colreevy to lead at the finish.

The last race of the Cheltenham Festival ended the way it started, with an Irish winner from the Willie Mullins yard, when Galopin Des Champs held off the strong travelling Langer Dan to assert the Irish's dominance on this meeting.

So that's it then, the curtains drawn to a close, who's ready for Cheltenham 2022 then? Things can only get better for the English next year after this year's performance, but at least there's a chance we'll be able to watch it in person next time!
