Another fascinating week of sporting action took place last week and I think it's time we took a look back at some of my highlights again.
We've already discussed the Grand Final game in a previous post but for a quick reminder if you missed it.
St Helens became the 2020 Super League champions after a last minute try from 19 year-old Jack Welsby secured them back to back championships.
The game was all square at 4-4 and after a missed penalty conversion from Wigan, St Helens went up the other end and scored after Bevan French failed to deal with a missed drop goal attempt from Tommy Makinson.
In football Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw with Brighton after Pascal Grob scored a last minute penalty to earn his side a point.
Brighton had missed an earlier penalty through Neal Maupay and after Diogo Jota had put Liverpool ahead it looked like the three points were going back home with the visitors.
But after Andrew Robertson caught Danny Welbeck in the box, up stepped Grob who slotted the penalty home to share the points between the sides.
Manchester City ran out comfortable 5-0 winners over Burnley and Manchester United fought back from 2-0 down to Southampton to run out 3-2 winners after a Edinson Cavani brace alongside a Bruno Fernandes goal completed a brilliant comeback.
The later game on Sunday saw a horrendous clash of heads between Arsenal's David Luiz and Wolves player Raul Jimenez which left the latter with a fractured skull and requiring surgery.
Wolves went onto win the game for their stricken teammate with a clever finish from Daniel Podence on 42 minutes securing a 2-1 win for his side.
Local team Barrow AFC had a week to forget, losing two times within the space of three days as they went out of the FA Cup on penalties.
On Tuesday they lost to Oldham 4-3 in League Two action before they were beaten on the Thursday 4-2 on penalties by League One opposition AFC Wimbledon.
In horse racing the classy Epatante routed his rivals in the renewal of the Betfair Fighting Fifth Grade 1 hurdle at Newcastle.
The Nicky Henderson trained horse never looked to get out of second gear and is now as short as 6/4 to retain her crown in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March 2021.
This weekend the racing heads to Sandown where Altior meets Politologue in what should be an exciting encounter between the two in the Tingle Creek and I'll be previewing all of this week's action in another piece which will be out later on in the week.
Michael Van Gerwen stepped up his bid to win the PDC World Championships this Christmas with a win at the Players Championship last Sunday, where he beat Mervyn King 11-10 in a tense final to win the trophy for a record breaking sixth time.
That's all for this week's sport review and keep an eye out again for that all important preview for this week which will be out shortly.
